The sun is shining, the air is heavy and people are enjoying happy hours on patios and back porches. It's also time for the summer interns to start their Event Coordinator positions. In light of that, I've asked Nicole & Liz to give you a quick report of their first week. Welcome them with a comment! :)
New Grad Takes on the World!
~by Nicole Mott (@nicolemott)
This has been a very enlightening work week with Sisarina. Having just graduated and feeling pretty confident about my internet skills, I thought I was relatively computer and internet savvy, but little did I know there is much more out there in the digital-world…
When I found out I would be working with Sisarina this summer I decided to create a Twitter account to be a “step ahead” (or so I thought). Although Twitter is pretty similar to Facebook, it’s a whole different world of social media. Just in my first day at Sisarina I learned so many things about Twitter; including what is interesting to post, how to talk to other people, how to find people… and so much more.
I was introduced to a few new fun gadgets this week, such as, Tweetdeck (which is a desktop application in which you can multitask in between different forms of media like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace) which I now use pretty frequently. Teresa and Melanie also showed me the great concept of the dual monitor screen, in which I can work on a Blog Posting, while also having an email open to a potential venue for an event.
The office layout, here at Sisarina, is very accommodating to positive brainstorming. Sitting so close to Liz (the other intern) to bounce ideas off of each other, and within earshot of Melanie and Teresa, makes this layout great! I’m also a huge fan of the “beachy” feeling the office has, considering I love the beach so it makes for a positive work-atmosphere!
I’m looking forward to learning more about different social media sources. I was born and raised in Northern Virginia, but I really look forward to learning about different events, venues and social gathering locations in the area for life that I can utilize for life post-graduation in the D.C. Metro-area.
Summer Beginnings
~by Liz Glomb (@eglomb)
What can I say about my first week? So far, all I can say is that it’s AWESOME! My main task has been to find a venue for a luncheon marketing strategy meeting, and even in just one week I’ve learned how to find the appropriate contacts and people to talk to in order to ask the right questions. It’s also successfully given me a long (and getting longer every day) list of restaurants and bars that I want to visit soon, mostly because their menus look amazing.
I’m excited for what the rest of the summer and this internship will bring. I’m hoping to learn all the in’s and out’s of event planning and get some writing experience as well. We’ll be posting some blog posts this summer, and you have no idea how excited I am about that experience. I’m sorry that this first post is so short and uneventful. I promise they will get better, and hopefully more humorous because I like being funny.
I look forward to this summer and entertaining you all. Till next time…
