When Melanie asked me to write a blog about things I do to simplify my life, my first thought was "Not to write blogs." But, since it was her birthday AND she's awesome, I agreed. So today I'm going to share 5 things I do regularly to help me simplify my days and maintain my sanity.

1. Unsubscribe
Take a few minutes in the morning to unsubscribe from any email newsletters that you haven't opened or gotten useful information from in days/weeks. Clearing out my inbox ALWAYS makes me feel better.

2. Eliminate
Donate (or sell) clothes you don't wear, books you don't read, stuff you don't use - anything just cluttering up your house. The more space you can create around yourself physically, the less mentally crowded you will feel. 

3. Un-Procrastinate
When you finish drinking your coffee, put the mug straight into the dishwasher. When you change out of your work clothes, hang them up or put them into the laundry basket. When you leave things lying out for later you create clutter and turn a 1-step action into a 2-part job. 

4. Finish
Set an "end time" for your work day. If you work from home often or are a workaholic (like me) then you never quite turn off the day. Set a time where you stop checking email and tune out the world. Allow your brain to be free and let the stress lift away - at least until morning. 

5. Write
I keep a notepad by my bed, in my bag, under the coffeetable - everywhere. When an idea or task come into my head, I can write it down and deal with it at a more opportune time. I don't have to worry about holding it all in my head. I can devote myself to the task at hand and come back to my notes later.
